Lost in the Wellness Jungle: How to Find What Works for YOU

Lost in the wellness jungle. 

That’s where so many people find themselves these days—bombarded by endless advice, much of it conflicting, confusing, and, honestly, exhausting.


That’s where I found myself for quite a few years. I mean, I still do some days, especially when I spend a lot of time on social media; and trust me, my social media accounts are flooded with wellness content, as I’m sure many of yours are too.


What should be a journey to better ourselves often turns into a stressful slog through clickbait and pseudoscience. One minute you’re told to eat like a caveman, the next it’s all about plant-based living. Should you be meditating for two hours a day, or is a brisk morning walk enough to calm your mind?



My Personal Experience


Let me give you an example. I care deeply about animal welfare, so when I was a teenager, I stopped eating meat. Soon after, I started following vegan trends on social media, and my IG feed was full of plant-based nutrition content. After hearing about the potential negative effects on health associated with eggs and milk products, I decided to cut them out. It felt like the right choice—aligning with my values of animal welfare and my pursuit of optimal health.


However, a few months into my stricter plant-based diet, I started experiencing fatigue like never before. I struggled with anaemia, hormonal imbalances, and digestive issues, all of which affected me physically, emotionally, and psychologically. Of course, I’m not saying that my poor health at the time was solely due to following a vegan diet; there were many other factors involved. But cutting out milk products and especially eggs had a significant impact, and this was proven when I reintroduced them into my diet a few years later.


Understanding Bio-Individuality


This is where bio-individuality comes into play. What works wonders for one person may not work at all for another. You know the saying: one man’s meat is another man’s poison. As a nutrition coach, I now understand that there is no one-size-fits-all diet or lifestyle. A vegan diet can boost the health of one person and negatively affect another- we see this happen with many people nowadays. And who knows, maybe the person who didn't feel good on a vegan diet at 18 will thrive on it at 40. The same goes for other wellness ‘trends.’


Take intermittent fasting as another example: eating within an 8-hour window and fasting for 16, typically done by skipping breakfast and having the first meal around 12pm. For many people who tried it, this eating schedule worked very well: people have noticed that it helped stabilise their blood sugar levels, they had more energy, and- most importantly for our current beauty culture- it helped with weight loss. However, well into the trend, some started noticing the adverse effects this eating schedule had on their health. Among these people, the majority were women. Namely, most of the research on intermittent fasting was conducted on men, then popularised and generalised to the entire population. Some women following this pattern experienced serious side effects like amenorrhea (loss of menstrual periods). Moral of the story is that while skipping breakfast might make some people feel better throughout the day, it can wreck havoc on others' hormones and overall health. Yet another 'wellness trend' I myself followed without considering my unique needs.


Same goes for trends like ice baths and cold plunges, keto (high fat, low carb) diets, HIIT workouts, sleep schedules, and even types of jobs (corporate, entrepreneurship, freelance, etc). Just as we differ in body type and physiological needs, we all also have different neurological makeups. While a 9-to-5 corporate job might be perfect for one person, it’s a nightmare for someone else. And entrepreneurship, with its flexibility and freedom, may be fulfilling for some but overwhelming and insecure for others.






















We’re not all the same, and that’s the beauty of being human.


Diversity is key. No matter which direction society leans, we don’t need to be the same to live harmoniously- with ourselves and with others.

The Challenge of Wellness Trends


Back to wellness trends... It can feel like everyone out there is an expert, but the advice is so wildly different that it’s hard to know who to trust—trust enough to even consider making the changes they advocate for. We end up hopping from one trend to the next, finding ourselves stuck in the same rut, just with more subscriptions and less motivation. Wellness fatigue is real, and it’s draining.


While we’re busy focusing on physical health, there’s also a growing need to develop skills that support our emotional and mental wellbeing. Empathy, emotional intelligence, open communication, self-awareness… Words we barely used 30 years ago have now become essential tools for navigating both personal relationships and professional environments. Yet, they often get pushed aside as we scramble to keep up with the next wellness trend or hack.


The problem is, we’re trying to piece together a cohesive picture of health and happiness from scattered fragments of information. It’s like trying to solve a puzzle without knowing what the final picture looks like. And that’s exactly why it’s so easy to get lost.


The bottom line


Bottom line is, there is no 'individual roadmap'. No one can tell you exactly what will work best for you, and even if they did, your needs might change in a year or two. Yes, our needs can and do change over time.

Information is not the key. With the rise of AI, it takes minutes to figure out our daily protein and fibre needs, water intake, and even generate a year-long meal plan. Lack of information is no longer the issue for most people, in most parts of the world.


What we need is something that’s not just informative but makes us pause, reflect, and, most importantly, grow. We need space to tune out the noise of the wellness industry and use the knowledge we have to shape the life we truly want to live—the lifestyle our unique bodies and minds crave.
